JOBSearch Center

The JOBSearch Center provides employment services to students and alumni, providing an important link between them and prospective employers.  The JOBSearch Center works with students who are interested in work while they are attending NMU (part-time, internships, etc.) and after they graduate and are looking for full-time career positions.  Students are urged to become familiar with the JOBSearch Center early in their college careers.  One-on-one assistance is available, in addition to the various workshops and printed materials.

JOBSearch Center services include:

  • workshops and seminars which are offered through regularly scheduled programs and by special request to student organizations, residence hall groups, etc.;

  • campus interviews - scheduled during the fall and winter semesters with recruiters from business, industry, education, etc.;

  • job vacancy bulletins - published weekly containing hundreds of jobs (they are available in the office, or by subscription;

  • lists of part-time jobs (on and off campus) - available on the JOBSearch Center web site, posted on the Job Board, and available in hard copy;

  • co-op, internship and summer job opportunities - all listed on the JOBSearch Center's web site at http://jobsearch.nmu.edu;

  • literature from employers who have interviewed on campus, attended job fairs and Career Days and are interested in hiring NMU graduates;

  • video tapes on job search preparation and etiquette, and from companies, school districts, and organizations of interest to NMU students and alumni;

  • assistance from alumni (the AlumNet system) who have volunteered to assist students in career decisions, meeting employers and relocating;

  • job fairs and career awareness programs which bring employers from a wide variety of fields to campus in order to meet and talk with students and alumni about careers and openings with their organizations;

  • part-time student employment job fairs - held during each summer orientation session to allow interested students to meet with campus employers who are looking for part-time employees;

  • JOBOPPS list:  an e-mail list students and alumni may join to receive up-to-date information on events, services and job information from the JOBSearch Center;

  • internship opportunities:  the JOBSearch Center employs upperclassmen each semester in order to give them "real world" experience in the fields of human resources, personnel, administration, and career development.

For a comprehensive list of the problems and services offered by the JOBSearch Center, visit their Web site or office.
