Awards Programs Announced
There
are three new award programs for faculty, staff and students related
to the Teaching, Learning and Communication (TLC) initiative.
The
faculty program recognizes exemplary use of TLC laptops in the areas
of teaching (demonstrating the application of educational technology
for improving teaching effectiveness), research (demonstrating effectiveness
of university laptops for professional research) and community service
(performing outstanding community services using university laptops).
Up to five awards of $300 each across these three areas will be
presented annually. The program is open to all NMU faculty members
or teams of faculty members. Applications must be submitted to the
Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs no
later than Monday, Nov. 1, and must include a description of the
project or use (in less than 1500 words) and example products.
The
staff program recognizes exemplary staff use/support of TLC laptops
and/or associated technologies in the areas of teaching or university
business practices. Types of projects include support for use of
TLC technologies for improving teaching and learning or research
effectiveness, and use of TLC technologies for the improvement of
university business/communication practices. Up to three awards
of $300 each will be made annually. The program is open to all staff
members or teams of staff members. Applications must be submitted
to the Office of the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
no later than Tuesday, March 1, 2005, and must include a description
of the project or use (in less than 1500 words) and example products.
The
student program recognizes exemplary student use of TLC laptops
in applications associated with their academic studies. Up to five
awards of $300 each across three areas will be made annually. The
categories are: technological sophistication (outstanding use of
computer technology in an academic application using a TLC laptop
computer or external devices); learning improvement (a student-developed
use or application of TLC laptops to advance student learning);
and other innovative uses.
