A. Minutes:
1. That the minutes of the December 11, 2009, meeting of the Board be approved.
B. Gifts, Grants, Agreements and Contracts:
1. A gift to the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences from Zodiac Party Store, St. Ignace, MI, Master built single door ice merchandizer ($500 value).
2. A gift to the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences from Allen and Kathy Solka, Ishpeming, MI, a handmade quilt, custom quilted, designer fabrics and matching pillowcase ($995 value).
3. A gift to the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences from Petersons Spot Store, Marquette, MI, semi hermetic refrigerating compressors (4) and heat reclaim coil (1) ($1,200 value).
4. A gift to the Department of Resident Life from Ms. Laurie Schneider, Marquette, MI, a Crown Geo P. Bent Orchestral Grand Piano ($1,200 value).
5. A gift to the Learning Resources Department WNMU from Steelcase, Inc., Grand Rapids, MI, 50 Domino Stack Chairs ($5,564 value).
6. A gift to the Department of Technology and Occupational Sciences from Alger Delta Co-op Electric Association, Gladstone, Michigan, a 1992 Ford Utility Vehicle with TECO model A4SR-FB22-ATWO Digger derrick truck ($10,000 value).
7. The grant from the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula, to provide transportation and supplies for area middle school students to participate in outdoor field and stream activities, in the amount of $1,016 for the period October 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010, under the direction of Ms. Debra L. Homeier.
8. The grant from AAUW, to host one of ten Campaign College campus sites on March 20, 2010, in the amount of $5,000, under the direction of Dr. Judith Puncochar.
9. The grant from the Michigan Campus Compact, to develop and capture a model program that integrates the learner-center strategy of real-time case study method with Web 2.0 applications (collaboration around Wiki and YouTube) within the context of community-based learning, in the amount of $5,000, for the period of September 1, 2009 through February 2011 under the direction of Ms. Patricia Hogan.
10. The grant between Northern Michigan University and Marquette County Emergency Management, to purchase a generator for the Mt. Mesnard Tower that will enhance and maintain communication networks for NMU and various public safety agencies, in the amount of $9,820, under the direction of Mr. Eric Smith.
11. The agreement between UPREACH, Inc. and Northern Michigan University to evaluate a novel compound for the treatment of Alzheimers disease, in the amount of $12,198.92, for the period December 15, 2009, through March 1, 2010, under the direction of Dr. Adam Prus.
12. The Fiscal Stabilization grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), made to public television and radio stations to maintain local programming and services and preserve jobs threatened by declines in non-federal revenue sources during the current economic decline, in the amount of $54,260.93 for WNMU-TV and $15,574.40 for WNMU-FM, under the direction of Mr. Eric Smith.
13. The grant between the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and Northern Michigan University, for the Indigenous Earth Issue Summit and the 2009 Annual Pow Wow, in the amount of $17, 200 ($8,000 for the Indigenous Earth Issues Summit; $9,200 for the Annual Pow Wow), under the direction of Ms. April Lindala.
14. The grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, to support an exhibition, workshop, and catalogue in conjunction with a residency by artist Erica Lord, in the amount of $10,000, with an additional amount of $5,500 from the DeVos Art Museum and an In-Kind amount of $9,249, for a total award of $24,749, for the period January 1, 2010 to July 31, 2010, under the direction of Ms. Melissa Matuscak.
15. The grant between Northern Michigan University and the State of Michigan, Department of Education, to provide leadership, student services, professional development, curriculum support, resources, and community involvement in mathematics and science education, in the amount of $43,398, with an In-Kind University amount of $4,340, for a total amount of $47,738, for the time period October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010, under the direction of Ms. Debra Homeier.
16. The grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth for the King-Chavez-Parks Initiative for the 4-S PACE Program, to provide a program open to economically and academically disadvantaged freshman and sophomore students of color emphasizing academic and personal development through participation in learning terms as a means to academic success, in the amount of $50,000, with additional amounts of $1,000 from Native American Studies, $900 from Multicultural Educational Resource Center, and $22,959 In-Kind University amount, for a total award of $74,859, for the period October 1, 2009, through September 30, 2010, under the direction of Ms. Shirley Brozzo.
17. The grant from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Office of Postsecondary Services, for the GEAR UP/College Day Program to provide college information to high school students in targeted schools, in the amount of $31,280, with additional amounts of $40,562 from the College Day Program funded from the State of Michigan appropriations and an In-Kind University amount of $40,562, for a total amount of $112,404, for the period of July 21, 2009, through July 20, 2010, under the direction of Ms. Shirley Brozzo.
18. The grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, to digitize and make available, via a project website, three record series that are part of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Mining Company (CCI) records, in the amount of $68,841, with an additional amount of $4,901 from the Archives department and a $94.449 In-Kind University amount, for a total award of $168,191, for the period April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2012, under the direction of Mr. Marcus Robyns.
19. The grant from the Michigan Department of State Police Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, to provide in-service training to the law enforcement community of the Upper Peninsula, in the amount of $176,843, with an additional amount of $25,050 from the NMU Public Safety Institute and an In-Kind University amount of $106,820, for a total amount of $308,716, for the time period of January 1, 2010, through December 31, 2010, under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Chant.
20. The grant from the Michigan Department of Management and Budget, Education Fund program of the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, which was authorized under Title XIV of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009, to provide a tuition credit to resident undergraduate students to help mitigate the increase in tuition and fees, in the amount of $1,289,300, for the period of October 1, 2009 through September 30, 2010, under the direction of Ms. Sherri Towers.
