FORMAL RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

A.         Minutes:

 

1.     That the minutes of the December 13, 2019, meeting of the Board be approved.

 

B.         Personnel Actions:

 

Appointments:

 

1.     Ulland, Rebecca J., Head and Professor, Languages, Literature, and International Studies Department, effective July 1, 2020.  (Transfer)

 

C.         Degrees:

 

1.     That Dr. Thomas H. Zurbuchen, Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA, receive an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Science, at the May 2020 Commencement Ceremony.  Dr. Zurbuchen will also be the Commencement Speaker.

 

2.     That Mr. John W. Berry, Jr., ’71, Chairman and CEO, Berry Investments, Inc., receive an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Business, at the May 2020 Commencement Ceremony.

 

3.     That Ms. Mary Lincoln Campbell, Managing Director/Founder, EDF Ventures, receive an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, at the May 2020 Commencement Ceremony.

 

D.         Property and Finance:

 

1.     That the following capital project with a total cost over $250,000, be approved:

 

Berry Event Center Hockey Locker Room Project

$1,350,000

West Hall Demolition

$   700,000

Housing and Residence Life Department Office Relocation

$   500,000

 

2.     That the department previously named “Simply Superior Catering & Events” be renamed “Northern Center & Event Services.”

 

E.         Special Items:

 

1.     That the following reorganization be approved:  The NMU Beaumier Welcome Center under Alumni Relations, reporting to the NMU Foundation, be moved to the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center in the Academic Affairs Division.

 

2.     That the NMU Board of Trustees Student Achievement Awards be modified from awarding two (2) Outstanding Graduating Senior Awards, one (1) to a female recipient and one (1) to a male recipient, to awarding two (2) Outstanding Graduating Senior Awards, with the selection committee choosing the top two graduating seniors overall without regard to gender.
