INTRODUCTION TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE FALL 2007 STUDENT COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER
Jessica Compton
Jessica Compton enrolled at NMU in the fall of 2002. She is from Marquette. Jessica is a double major in Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences and Spanish. She will graduate cum laude.
Jessica has been very active as a member of the National Student Speech, Language Hearing Association. She has done volunteer work with them and on her own with a local therapist. Jessica has been a valued student employee at the NMU Bookstore for four years. She studied abroad in Mexico and has developed a deep love and understanding of other cultures. She has also been a member of the NMU marching band for five years and has been in a leadership position with the group for two years. Jessica has played the French horn at seven NMU commencement ceremonies. She’s excited to be sitting in a different spot at this year’s ceremony!
Jessica will be leaving soon on a mission for her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. When she returns, she plans to go to graduate school for Speech Language Pathology.
The theme of Jessica’s address is that life is full of choices, some big and some small, some easy and some hard. Students should continue to do what they have learned at Northern—choosing great and valuable things that bring happiness and satisfaction.
Joining Jessica at the Board meeting will be her father, Dr. Tim Compton, who is the department head for Modern Languages and Literatures here at Northern.
