FORMAL RECOMMENDATIONS

A.     Minutes:

 

 1.     That the minutes of the December 13-14, 2007 meeting of the Board be approved.

 

 

B.      Gifts, Grants, Agreements and Contracts:

 

1.    A gift to Technology and Occupational Sciences from Andrew Timothy Schaedig, Marquette, Michigan, a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier two door (value to be determined at sale).

 

2.    A gift to Engineering Technology from Matt Laforet, Smyrna, GA, 2 Gates Hydraulic pumps

       ($1,870 value).

 

3.    A gift to Technology and Occupational Sciences from Ploy-Fiber/Ceconite/Randolph Aoft Coatings, Riverside, CA, 1 lot fabric, thread and supplies for airplanes ($3,000 value).

 

4.    A gift to the School of Art and Design/DeVos Art Museum, an unframed painting, “Twenty nine People’s Mediums,” ($5,700 value).

 

5.    The grant between Northern Michigan University and Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Water Resources Division, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, to survey Ixodes scapularis and other Ixodid ticks in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, in the amount of $3,500, for the period of

       August 20, 2007, through May 31, 2009, under the direction of Associate Professor Jackie Bird.

6.    The grant from Michigan Campus Compact to provide an EN110 Academic Learning Service Project in collaboration with Teaching Family Homes, in the amount of $5,348, with a cash match of $400 from the English Department and an in-kind university match of $4,967, for a total of $10,715, for the period of September 1, 2007, through August 31, 2008, under the direction of Associate Professor Kia Richmond.

 

7.    The grant between the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Water Resources Division, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Northern Michigan University, to provide research of population dynamics of the federally-threatened Pitcher’s Thistle in the Grand Sable Dunes at Pictures Rocks National Lakeshore, in the amount of $16,000, for the period of May 13, 2007, through December 31, 2008, under the direction of Professor Alan Rebertus.

 

8.    The grant between Northern Michigan University and Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Water Resources Division, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, for the removal of non-native fish species from Seven Mile Creek at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, in the amount of $27,771.98, with a cash match of $1,000 from Biology, an in-kind university match of $31,590.40, an in-kind match of $9,677 from the National Park Service, an in-kind match of $1,172 from Trout Unlimited, and an in-kind match of $1,500 from the U.S. Geological Survey, for a total amount of $72,711.38, for the period of August 17, 2007, through May 1, 2011, under the direction of Associate Professor Jill Leonard.

 

9.    The Year 3 Mathematics and Science Partnership grant from the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District, to provide professional development for K-12 teachers in mathematics with a goal to improve student achievement in mathematics, in the amount of $14,100, bringing the total award to $119,500, for the period of October 1, 2007, through March 1, 2008, under the direction of Ms. Ann Joyal.

 

10.  The grant from the State of Michigan, Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Bureau of Career Education Services, to provide a program open to economically and academically disadvantaged freshman and sophomore students of color emphasizing academic and personal development through participation in learning teams as a mean to academic success, in the amount of $77,575, with a cash match of $2,500 from MERC, and an in-kind university match of $60,452, for a total award of $140,527, for the period of October 1, 2007, through September 30, 2008, under the direction of Ms. Shirley Brozzo.

11.  The grant between the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Northern Michigan University, to educate the general public about the USOEC’s role in the Olympic Games and to recognize the outstanding achievements of student athletes who train in the USOEC program at NMU, in the amount of $148,500, for the period of January 8, 2007, through September 30, 2008, under the direction of Mr. Jeffrey Kleinschmidt.
