The Academic Affairs Committee meeting was called to order at 1:04 p.m.

Academic Senate Update

Dr. Andrew Poe, Chair, Academic Senate, provided a brief summary of Senate activities. He discussed two projects the Senate will continue to address this year:  Liberal Studies and Accreditation.

Charter Schools

Mr. William Pistulka, Charter Schools Officer, discussed recent activities in the Charter Schools Office.  He informed the Committee that North Star Academy will be up for reauthorization in summer 2009 and NMU will host the first Charter Schools Conference for Board of Directors and Administrators on October 2-3, 2008.

Accreditation Update

Dr. Cynthia Prosen, Associate Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies, provided an update on NMU’s accreditation activities including preparations for the accreditation visit scheduled for March 2009.

Roadmap & Scholarship Activities

Dr. Susan Koch highlighted the ongoing progress in the Academic Affairs Division related to the four priorities identified in the Roadmap to 2015.

Dr. Susan Koch, Dr. Dwight Brady, Communication & Performance Studies, Dr. Jill Leonard, Biology and Dr. Greg Warchol, Criminal Justice, discussed values of a teaching scholar approach.
