Achievements
Public TV 13 broke records
during its recent on-air fundraiser, Festival '04. The
station raised about $78,200 in pledges from 750 viewers in Upper
Michigan and northeastern Wisconsin –
a $20,000 increase over last year. The number of first-time
contributors increased nearly 50 percent and the number of people
pledging support overall was up 24 percent.
Michael
Broadway (Geography), a member of the Association of American
Geographers, was profiled in the March issue of the AAG Newsletter.
Kerri
Schuiling (Nursing) has been named a Fellow of the American
College of Nurse-Midwives. The program, established in 1994, admits
12 fellows each year. It honors midwives whose professional achievement,
outstanding scholarship, clinical experience, and/or demonstrated
leadership have merited them special recognition both within and
outside the midwifery profession.
The March issue of the
Lambda Chi Alpha magazine, Cross & Crescent, featured
a cover story on the NMU chapter of the fraternity. It was a reprint
of a Mining Journal story on current members providing
hospital bedside assistance to Don Kromer, a quadriplegic and former
member of Lambda Chi Alpha, who returned to Marquette for surgery.
The volunteer coordinator
for the UP 200 sled dog race thanked the following NMU organizations
for their help with the 2004 event: NMU Volunteer Center, men's
and women's rugby, crew and lacrosse teams, Tau Kappa Epsilon, English
honor society, Golden Z Club, criminal justice, Trail Cats, and
Lambda Chi.
