David Boe
(English) presented his paper
"Tolkien and linguistic (re)construction" at the
annual meeting of the North American Association for the History
of Language Sciences (NAAHoLS) in Oakland, Calif. David has also
accepted another two-year appointment as the secretary/newsletter
editor of NAAHoLS, which is one of the subsections of
the Linguistic Society of America (LSA).
Kia Jane Richmond
(English) led a poetry writing workshop for students in
creative writing classes at Gwinn High School. The students read/listened
to Gwendolyn Brooks' poem "We Real Cool" and then wrote
original rhythmic poems. Brooks' work was selected in order to create
awareness of and interest in Black History Month, which is celebrated
in February.
