Presentations

Mitchell Klett (Education) gave two presentations this summer: "ESSEA at Northern Michigan University" at At the Earth System Science Education Alliance conference in Charleston, S.C., which highlighted the methods of teaching action research online and the outcomes of the action research projects of ESSEA participants; and "Electronic Applications of the GLOBE Earth System Science Poster Activity" at the 12th annual GLOBE Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Melissa Matuscak (Art and Design, left) presented "Redefining Production-Contemporary Art Museums in Post-Industrial Spaces: The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art" at the Third International Conference on The Arts in Society. The decline of an industrial-based economy has left many U.S. cities with enormous, empty shells that once contained manufacturing facilities. Matuscak used the Massachusetts museum, which is housed in the former site of Sprague Electric Company, as an example of how contemporary art is finding unlikely homes in these buildings that once symbolized industrial success and power. The conference was held July 28-31 at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, part of Birmingham City University, in the United Kingdom.
