Alumni Nursing Panel a Success
A nursing panel designed to assist NMU students in their career choices was held this week at the University Center. The event allowed NMU alumni working in the profession to interact with students pursuing a related degree. NMU graduate Faith Edwards (Nursing) was the moderator.
The NMU Alumni Association and Student Alumni Association (SAA) sponsored the event, which was the first of its kind. The SSA formed in August to create networking opportunities, educate students on the importance of philanthropy and promote NMU pride and traditions. Members are hoping to host at least one panel discussion/networking event each semester.
“NMU alumni, no matter what profession they are in, have a wealth of experience they are more than happy to share with students," said Deanna Hemmila (Alumni Relations). "The nursing panel was a prime example. Not one alumnus we asked said no. They all were very excited to participate and assist in any way possible. Students had questions about everything from passing nursing exams, to how to be successful in their clinicals, to how to ace a job interview. There was great interaction between the alumni and the students. Everyone hung around afterward to talk about nursing."
