Lieutenant Manion's Testimony |
Central to the defense of Lieutenant Manion is the opportunity for the lieutenant to tell his version of the events. A crucial point is what the lieutenant does and does not recall about the evening he shot Barney Quill.
The lieutenant's testimony closely follows that of the actual trial, although it is condensed in places. Note that the testimony as to how the lieutenant acquired the Luger is given early in the actual trial but in the book is deferred to the cross-examination for dramatic purposes.
