Eve Hutchinson

Meet Eve Hutchison, a Secondary Music Education major and Communications Studies minor from Wheaton, IL. Eve plans to graduate in 2024.

I found NMU through a college fair in my hometown, and loved the atmosphere and nature surrounding Marquette. After visiting for the Presidential Scholars Competition in 2018, I immediately felt right at home.

I originally came up here to pursue a degree in Environmental Sustainability after falling in love with the nature of Marquette, but after a semester doing the NMU Wildcat Marching Band, making so many friends, and rediscovering my love for music, I switched my major to Secondary Music Education!

Last year, the Wildcat Marching Band travelled to GVSU and we got to play a combined halftime show with them at one of their football games! Since we don’t usually travel with the football team it was really fun to take a mini-vacation with all of my friends!

I used to work at WUPX (the radio station on-campus) and that was actually what helped me pick my minor. Being able to run my own set on the live radio once a week was a super unique experience, and something I recommend to everyone!

It means welcoming everyone you meet! The UP, and NMU in general, is one of the friendliest communities I have ever been apart of, and I love being able to feel safe and accepted everywhere.

NMU has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Smaller class sizes means I am able to connect with each of my professors on a personal level, the endless clubs and activities you can join make sure you’re never bored, and I have made life-long friends that I look forward to knowing for the rest of my life.

Go Cats!
