Isabelle Galvez

Meet Isabella Galvez, a Nursing major, from Payneville, KY. Isabella plans to graduate in 2024.

I decided to come to NMU on a whim. I loved the recreational activities and beautiful scenery this place had to offer. I heard Northern had an amazing reputation with their nursing school program so I decided to apply. It was the best decision I have ever made.

During COVID, I became a CNA and worked for 2 years as one. I fell in love with the patient connections I made and the continuity of care. I knew that healthcare is where I was made to be.

I had the opportunity to shadow the camp nurses at Bay Cliff this summer and learn what it was like to be a pediatric camp nurse.

I have been a member of the Student Nurses Association since 2022. I also work at an Assisted Living Home and Nursing Home part time. Working with my residents has been the most rewarding experience. Advocating for my residents and promoting their dignity is something I take pride in doing.

Being a “Wildcat” means you’re part of the community. You are fun, adventurous, and have the strength to make your dreams become reality.

I found my sense of belonging at NMU from the start of my program. The students in my cohort are supportive and want each other to succeed. The person I loved the most passed away during nursing school. I had a team of supportive students and staff that were able to help me become resilient through the difficult time.

Life is too short. Run that race. Travel to that place. Take that job. Just do it.
