Why NMU?

Whether you are fresh out of high school, or you are actively working in the field and are interested in continuing your education to expand your career opportunities, the School of Nursing has a program appropriate for you.

The programs are demanding and rewarding, and they work toward a common goal of preparing students through classroom and field exercises to be competent professionals in the workplace. Explore this Web site to learn more about the programs and resources available to students.

Admission into the nursing program is highly competitive, and students are required to apply for acceptance after having successfully completed a series of prerequisite courses, including human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, psychology, growth and development, medical microbiology and nutrition.

What You'll Do

Assist in research projects, such as the effects of alcohol on violence, or body image and pregnancy. Share interests and plan special events by joining the Student Nurses Association. Travel to professional conferences or study abroad, perhaps teaching basic personal-care skills to children in Belize. Whatever you choose to do, you’ll have the support of talented, caring professors every step of the way.

Nursing students in lab

NMU's program has more than 90 percent of graduates finding work in six months of graduation. Along with positions in hospitals, clinics and physician offices, nurses also work in business, occupational, community and home health care settings.
