Fieldhouse Food Bar Latest Dining Option

The most recent addition to the dining services options at Northern is the Fieldhouse Food Bar on the second floor of C.B. Hedgcock. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The menu features breakfast foods, snacks, sandwiches, fresh salads, homemade soups, personal pizzas and freshly baked cookies. Beverage selections include assorted juices, fresh bean ground coffee, specialty teas, a variety of flavored cappuccino, steamers, milk, sodas and bottled water.

Specialty sandwiches include Cajun chicken panini, California dreamer, Julius Stacker, garden fresh panini, tuna and cheddar sandwich, smoked turkey with bacon, and a sandwich featuring NMU President Les Wong’s favorite, pastrami. The official name of the sandwich will be announced later this month.

The Fieldhouse Food Bar, which opened on Monday, Nov. 8, was named through a campus-wide drawing, according to Kathy Johnson (Dining Services).

"We had over 100 people submit names for the new facility," she said.

The winning selection reflects the history of C.B. Hedgcock that preceded its conversion to a student services center. It used to have a fieldhouse that served as the home court for NMU men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball. The latter claimed one of its national championships in the facility.

The location of the Fieldhouse Food Bar has been in the works for the past few years, revolving around the renovation projects on campus.

"(The Fieldhouse Food Bar) has been a hidden jewel with the best view from any dining establishment on campus," Johnson said. "As people find out where we are, and what great things we have to offer, I know business will pick up."

There will be a grand opening in late January or early February on a date still to be determined.
