Meet Carly Schrank, a Public Relations major and Economics minor, from Saginaw, MI. Carly plans to graduate with her bachelor's degree in May of 2025, then will be continuing her education at Northern to pursue a Master's degree in Business Administration.

I decided to come to NMU to pursue my love for the outdoors, there are so many beautiful places to explore and hike here!

I decided to major in public relations to combine my passions for event planning, marketing, and communications. The PR program has allowed me to be creative and learn important aspects of the business field. On the other hand, I chose to minor in economics to better understand the history of money and banking, as well as learn the basics of the stock and housing markets.

As a public relations major, I had the amazing opportunity to work as the special events intern for the Dow Championship (formerly the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational) LPGA tournament. This job allowed me to plan and execute events for the tournament, as well as working with the players and major golf brands.

On campus, I'm a member of the figure skating team, PRSSA, and the superior edge program. Off-campus, I have many hobbies, such as archery, playing the violin, golfing, going to the gym, and hiking. The most rewarding experience I've had since coming to NMU would have to be traveling with PRSSA to the annual ICON conference in Nashville this past October. At ICON, I was able to make a ton of connections with other students and PR professionals, as well as explore the city.

Being a Wildcat means supporting your other wildcats no matter what. The amount of kindness I've witnessed here is truly unbelievable. Wildcats turn strangers into family.

I found my sense of belonging at NMU by joining clubs I was interested in, as well as going to as many events as I could both on-campus and in the city of Marquette. Events like hockey games, the UP 200, and open skate are great places to meet people.

I would tell them to take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way. Attend as many school and city events as possible and utilize the connections that the university gives you. Work hard, but have fun! 4 years are over in the blink of an eye.

I have absolutely loved my past three years at NMU. Marquette is not only a great college town, but also a wonderful community that I'm proud to call my home.
