Description

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion.

The ADA is enforced by several agencies, including the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (ATBCB).
