Description

Every two years, SEVIS requires that schools submit a J-1 redesignation document. This enables the university to continue issuing DS-2019 documents for visiting scholars and exchange student visas.

The purpose of the recertification is to submit updated university documents to U.S. Immigration.

Six months before the redesignation due date, the RO (Responsible Officer) will receive an “alert” by email and on the SEVIS website. This informs the RO when the recertification document is due and links to information websites. Three of the most useful resources are:

The most recent J-1 Redesignation document was submitted and approved on December 9, 2019. The approval was returned to NMU on April 23, 2020.

Original documentation is located in the International Programs files. Paper files must be maintained per U.S. Immigration regulations. The documents are also located on the International Programs share drive.
