Development and assessment of skills necessary for performance of the duties of a professional biologist, including synthesis of primary and secondary literature, hypothesis generation, design of experiments, data analysis and interpretation, and professional presentations in journal and conference formats. The major field test in biology will be given during one of the class meetings for BI 494, so students enrolled in BI 494 will automatically be added to BI 489 (Graduate Assessment for Biology Majors). Appropriate research or professional experiences may be substituted for this course.
