Continuing Education
The NMU Continuing Education and Workforce Development office provides opportunities for continuing your education in the areas of commercial driver's license (CDL), Real Estate Appraisal, school bus drivers, motorcycle safety, social work, test preparation, online certifications, online cannabis studies, and more. CEWD offers online and in-person training and testing opportunities.
Workforce Development
We partner with business and industry throughout the Upper Peninsula. Our primary objective is to create, sustain and retain a skilled workforce that supports current business and industry while considering the future workforce.

NMU works with regional companies, entrepreneurs, schools and agencies, and industry to meet the current and future workforce needs of the Upper Peninsula and beyond.
Cybersecurity
The Upper Peninsula Cybersecurity Institute (UPCI) at NMU is the only facility of its kind in the U.P. and one of six statewide. The institute offers non-degree and industry credentials relevant to emerging careers in cybersecurity.

Welding as a Hobby
Welding as a Hobby - Beginners
This class is for anyone who wants to learn about the basics of welding.
Welding as a hobby is a fun activity and a great way to tackle some of those DIY projects! This beginning/intermediate course is meant to show you the basics including safety, power sources, equipment set-up, general usage of oxygen acetylene cutting torches, arc welding and mig or wire feed welding along with plenty of time for practice, questions & answers. We will run two sessions this winter all information is below:

Dates: Saturdays for 6 weeks; January 18th, 2025 - February 22nd 2025
Time: 9 AM until Noon
Location: NMU’s Jacobetti Complex
Session 2
Dates: Saturdays for 6 weeks; March 8th, 2025 - April 12th 2025
Time: 9 AM until Noon
Location: NMU’s Jacobetti Complex
The cost is $500 and includes instruction, equipment and all materials. Register today! Must meet an 8-person minimum. If you have your own welding hood, jacket, safety glasses or gloves, bring them with you. If you don't have these items, we will provide them for your use.
***IMPORTANT - If you have a pacemaker or similar item you MUST consult your doctor before enrolling. This is due to the high-frequency start that TIG welding utilizes to establish the arc.

Grief Support Specialist
The Grief Support Specialist Program is a non-credit certificate program through Continuing Education and Workforce Development at NMU. This program evolved from the Grief Specialist Program at UW-Madison. The Grief Support Specialist Program is an online, 8-week, non-credit certificate program through Continuing Education and Workforce Development at NMU. This program evolved from the Grief Specialist Program at UW-Madison. Participants will learn the principles and many practical tools and techniques to enhance their professional and personal life related to grief.

Grief Support Specialist Program
Bus Driver Safety
NMU is the state-approved School Bus Driver Training Agency for the central and western Upper Peninsula. The purpose of school bus safety instruction is to promote safe, efficient pupil transportation programs, using the Michigan Department of Education-approved curriculum.
