NU 322 Nursing Care of Women and the Perinatal Family (Clinic) 2 cr.  (0-0-4)

Focus on the family unit during pregnancy. Physiological and psychosocial adaptations of the mother/baby following delivery are explored along with complications that may arise. This course also provides students with an opportunity to explore women’s health issues.
NU 331 Nursing Care of Children/Adolescents (Theory) 3 cr.  (3-0-0)

Focus on the nursing care of children and family units ranging from infancy through adolescence. The information from AH 102 Growth and Development will be used as a basis for course content on the pediatric population. The foundations of pediatric care, including growth and development, family theory, anticipatory guidance and care of the child with simple and complex health care needs are presented.

This course builds upon a basic knowledge of pharmacology focusing on the application of pharmacological concepts to nursing care of patients with complex multi-system health problems. Use of evidence-based knowledge to provide safe, quality nursing care related to drug therapy is a major focus.

NU 352 Advanced Concepts in Family Nursing 2 cr.

An exploration of family nursing in which the family unit is the focus of care. Family assessment models provide the framework for planning nursing care for families in a variety of health care settings.

NU 370 Cardiac Arrhythmias and Nursing Care 2 cr.

This course covers the fundamentals of single-lead, basic cardiac rhythm and arrhythmia interpretation and current treatments. The student will be able to recognize common cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias and describe related nursing care.

NU 386 Interdisciplinary Study in Global Healthcare - Latin America 3 cr.  (0-0-6)

Provides students with an interdisciplinary cultural immersion experience in a service-learning setting. Students will have an opportunity to learn about the culture of a selected Latin American country with a particular focus on the health and health care of the country's residents.

This course will provide students with an intense immersion into the care of patients and their family at end of life. Students will have an opportunity to learn about palliative care, pain management, symptom management, ethical/legal issues, cultural/spiritual considerations, communication, loss, grief and bereavement.

Focuses on population-based nursing care. Using a public health perspective, local, national and global health problems are examined. Issues related to vulnerable populations, social justice, ethics, economics and health care policy are considered. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies are integrated throughout the course.

This course will focus on applying and integrating knowledge gained in previous coursework within a primary, secondary or tertiary care setting allowing students to enhance the skills necessary to function in the professional role. The student focuses on a selected area of practice within the current health care environment.
