In this course, students will improve their listening and speaking skills necessary for academic success and appropriate participation in social communication in an English-speaking community. In preparation for advanced study in English, this course will provide students with daily opportunities to engage in small group and class discussion on cultural and academic topics while developing the necessary skills and resources to ensure comprehension. Instruction will focus primarily on the development of fluency in the student’s spoken communication and will emphasize accuracy in production at an intermediate level. Students will develop their note-taking skills by learning and practicing new strategies for listening to and comprehending academic conversations and lectures on various topics. In addition, students will prepare and deliver formal academic speeches/presentations throughout the course. They will collaborate with classmates to complete a variety of assignment types.
