Russian Literature

RUS 311 Russian Literature 4 cr.

A survey of translated works of literature from Russia, stressing historical development and comparative analysis.

Elementary Chinese II

CHN 102 Elementary Chinese II 4 cr.

The second course in the elementary Chinese sequence. An introduction to the Chinese language and culture. Students learn rudimentary “survival” skills, such as social etiquettes; telling time and giving directions; talking about family, school and work; and writing and recognizing written characters. 

Life Contingencies

MA 471 Life Contingencies 3 cr.

The purpose of the course is to develop the student’s knowledge of the theoretical basis of life contingent actuarial models and the application of those models to insurance and other financial risks.

Financial Economics

MA 470 Financial Economics 3 cr.

MA 470 covers selected topics on the current SOA Exam MFE / CAS Exam 3F syllabus. The purpose of the course is to develop the student’s knowledge of the theoretical basis of certain actuarial models and the application of those models to insurance and other financial risks.

Interest Theory

MA 370 Interest Theory 3 cr.

The goal of the course is to provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts of financial mathematics, and how those concepts are applied in calculating present and accumulated values for various streams of cash flows as a basis for future use in: reserving, valuation, pricing, asset/liability management, investment income, capital budgeting, and valuing contingent cash flows. The student will also be given an introduction to financial instruments, including derivatives, and the concept of no-arbitrage as it relates to financial mathematics.

MA 370 covers all topics on the current SOA Exam FM / CAS Exam 2 syllabus. 

iOS / iPhone Programming

CS 344 iOS / iPhone Programming 4 cr.

This course covers how to program the iPhone and Apple Macintosh using Objective C. Topics may include iPhone programming, the Macintosh operating system, Objective C object hierarchy, Cocoa Touch, views, controllers, embedded databases, animation, OpenGL / gaming, motion sensing, map and location services. 

Media and Politics

BC 480 Media and Politics 4 cr.

Course examines the election process and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the coverage in the media. The course will also review the types and quality of information available about candidates, parties, and issues.
