Introduction to Marketing

MKT 230 Introduction to Marketing 4 cr. Study of the basic marketing functions from a managerial standpoint. Emphasis is placed on the development of a marketing mix to enhance the operational performance of all organizations that undertake marketing activities. Students further develop marketing-related knowledge and skills through integrated assignments and exposure to additional topics in marketing; emphasis is on the strategic implications of marketing decision-making.

Directed Study in Management

MGT 498 Directed Study in Management 1-4 cr. Individual research in management. Work is supervised through conferences with an adviser. A written final report must be filed with the college.

Internship in Management

MGT 491 Internship in Management 1-4 cr. Professional experience for qualified management majors working with accounting or other business firms. Written paper required; students evaluated by faculty supervisor in consultation with employer. Counts as an elective in the management or marketing program. Repeatable up to a total of four credits.

International Business

MGT 475 International Business 4 cr.

Introduction to challenges in international business; managerial focus on the various aspects of global business, including accounting, finance, logistics, information systems, human resources, marketing, law and ethics. Focus is on building an awareness of the cultural, country, political and geographical variables in international business.

Strategic Management

MGT 436 Strategic Management 4 cr. A comprehensive analysis and synthesis of the strategic management process. Topics include mission and goals, external and internal environmental analysis, business and corporate level strategies, international strategies, corporate leadership, governance, and corporate entrepreneurship. Application of theory and practice is accomplished through written and oral case analysis.

Business Research

MGT 425 Business Research 4 cr.

Development of an appreciation for the role of research in problem solving and decision making. Topics covered include science and the scientific method, techniques of defining problems, the nature of hypothesis testing and inferential statistics, research design, measurement and validity, data collection (secondary and primary), surveys, interviews, observation, types of sampling, sample size and statistical calculations.

Conflict Management and Collective Bargaining

MGT 424 Conflict Management and Collective Bargaining 4 cr.

The causes and consequences of organizational conflict will be examined, and students will learn strategies for managing interpersonal conflict. Negotiation theory and practice will be discussed, including interpersonal, small group, and collective bargaining practices.

Small Enterprise Management

MGT 414 Small Enterprise Management 4 cr. The nature of management in the small business environment including the exploration of the strengths and weaknesses of small businesses. Students study the components of a small business plan. The accounting, finance, management and marketing aspects of small business management are analyzed. Each student develops and presents a plan for operating a small business.
