Study of the administration and design of the wage and salary function of organizations, including the determinants of wages, job evaluation, compensation plans, employee evaluation and the administration of fringe benefits.

Controversial Issues in Marketing and Management

MGT 360 Controversial Issues in Marketing and Management 4 cr. Businesses and non-profit organizations are confronted with a variety of controversial issues (involving ethical and social responsibility issues), making both strategic and day-to-day decision-making difficult. The course examines contemporary and emerging critical issues facing businesses and non-profit organizations, focusing on recent developments and a review of some “best practices” of organizations who have taken leadership roles. Cross-cultural differences in analyzing ethical and social responsibility issues will also be explored. Notes:

Methods of Training

MGT 355 Methods of Training 4 cr. This course provides an application of theories of learning and instructional development to the education and training of employees in office systems. Emphasis is on instructional design and the implementation, evaluation and management of training in an organizational environment.

Managerial Communication

MGT 344 Managerial Communication 4 cr. Focus on developing cognitive and behavioral skills central to becoming a competent communicator in organizational settings. The role of communication in upholding such social values as mutual understanding, cooperation, and respect for diversity within the organizational community will be examined. The course is based on developing knowledge, sensitivity, skills, and ethical competencies.

Event Management

MGT 342 Event Management 2 cr.

Both a practical and an academic overview approach to the business of managing events. Students will focus on the execution of previous planning required to host successful events, learning from a textbook, guest speakers, and by managing regional events.

Both a practical and academic overview approach to the business of planning events. Students will focus on the planning required to host successful events, learning from textbook, guest speakers, and by participating in planning and organizing of regional events.

Random Models in Business

MGT 327 Random Models in Business 4 cr. Develops selected quantitative tools useful in operations management and managerial decision making. The focus of the course is probabilistic quantitative analysis of business systems. The course covers both development and application of selected MS/OR tools such as the decision theory, Markov chains, stochastic inventory problems, simulation, queuing theory, etc.

Deterministic Models in Business

MGT 326 Deterministic Models in Business 4 cr. Develops selective quantitative tools useful in operations management and managerial decision making. The focus of the course is deterministic quantitative analysis of business systems. The course covers both development and application of selected MS/OR tools such as spreadsheet modeling, linear programming, network analysis and integer programming.
