Studies in Genre, Narrative

EN 362 Studies in Genre, Narrative 4 cr.

A study of the characteristics that define this varied genre in history. The class provides students with a complex historical knowledge of narrative from the epic to the novel, with emphasis on the novel, the short story and theories of narrative.

Studies in Genre, Poetry

EN 361 Studies in Genre, Poetry 4 cr.

A study of poetry meant to acquaint students with the broad variety of verbal activities in the genre. The course will include an examination of lyric, dramatic and narrative forms. Course will culminate in a substantial research project.

Methods and Materials in Teaching English Education

EN 350 Methods and Materials in Teaching English Education 4 cr.

Introduction to recent methods and materials to motivate secondary students. Presents phases of language, literature and composition in a classroom situation. Text readings are balanced with professional research tailored to individual interests.

Notes:

May not be applied toward a non-teaching major or any minor in English. Can be applied to the secondary education English minor if required.

National Cinema

EN 326 National Cinema 4 cr.

Study of selected national cinemas (or a selected topic in national cinema) with emphasis on their relationship to national cultural traditions.

Notes:

May be repeated for credits if topic varies.

British Literature of Enlightenment and Revolution

EN 322 British Literature of Enlightenment and Revolution 4 cr.

The development of British literature from 1660 to 1800, including the Restoration, Age of Enlightenment and beginnings of Romanticism; authors may include Behn, Defoe, Dryden, Hogarth, Pope, Swift.

Notes:

Available for an additional research credit; students must be registered for the three-credit course before signing up for the additional credit. This additional credit must be added separately.
