Advanced Clinical Chemistry Practicum

CLS 452 Advanced Clinical Chemistry Practicum 3 cr.

This course is part of an intense, five-month, full-time practicum in an affiliated clinical laboratory under supervision of clinical laboratory scientists. Includes practical experience and further acquisition of theoretical principles in all areas of the clinical laboratory with emphasis on special testing, problem solving and a variety of supervisory functions. The practicum is represented by CLS 250S, CLS 451, CLS 452, CLS 453, and CLS 454.

Medical Genetics

CLS 436 Medical Genetics 4 cr.

 

This course is designed to teach basic principles of medical genetics and the application of these principles to our understanding of human genetic diseases and disabilities. In addition, this course will help students gain a better understanding of the role of genetics in ongoing developments in patient care. Topics span the following areas: infectious diseases, hematology/oncology, and molecular genetics.

 

Clinical Educational Practices

CLS 420 Clinical Educational Practices 1 cr.

Introduction of the laboratory professional to basic education methodology. The principles of learning, the use of goals and objectives and the analysis of a teaching module will be addressed first. Students will be required to teach two laboratory sessions and present one in-service to the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department.

Introduction to Clinical Management

CLS 410 Introduction to Clinical Management 1 cr.

Designed to provide introduction to management issues and practices in the clinical environment such as human resources, leadership, finances, regulatory oversight, compliance issues and productivity/benchmarking. The course will be offered on-line.

Advanced Clinical Microbiology I

CLS 404 Advanced Clinical Microbiology I 2 cr.

A study of selected topics in bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and virology utilizing computer-assisted instruction, written assignments and lab problems. Identification techniques and protocol will be evaluated for both common and infrequently isolated pathogens.
