Eco and Adventure Tourism

RE 440 Eco and Adventure Tourism 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course prepares students to understand, develop, and lead, eco and adventure tourism agencies, and experiences. The interrelationships between eco and adventure tourism and other forms of tourism are emphasized. This course addresses various theories and concepts, environmental, socio-cultural, and economic impacts, sustainable practices, and incorporates various field experiences in order to provide a foundation for examining and understanding the form, function, and impacts of eco and adventure tourism.

Tutoring Students in Developmental Courses

EN 308 Tutoring Students in Developmental Courses 2-4 cr.

Using topics and strategies approved by the College Reading and Learning Association, students in this course will learn the methods necessary to effectively tutor developmental students through discussions, small group activities, reading and writing assignments, tutoring experiences, observations and other methods.

Does not count toward an English major or minor.

Approaches to Academic Literacy and Study

EN 103 Approaches to Academic Literacy and Study 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

Goal setting, basic learning skills, study techniques, note-taking, vocabulary, writing and reading comprehension will be emphasized in this course to develop students’ positive reading attitudes, motivation and self-efficacy. Specifically, students will participate in a variety of instructional activities to promote collaborative learning and critical thinking.

Religion and Society

AN 312 Religion and Society 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course introduces students to the sociological and anthropological traditions that examine religious practices and their relationship to sociocultural systems and processes. The thematic study of diverse religious practices, in North America and throughout the world, will shed light on the nature and functions of religion as a core social institution. Both classical and contemporary sociological and anthropological theory will emphasize the role of religion throughout human history.

Race, Politics and Public Policy

PS 440 Race, Politics and Public Policy 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course examines racial politics in the U.S. as they impact select public policies such as criminal justice, social welfare, affirmative action, employment, voting rights and others.

Database Development for Scientists

CS 410 Database Development for Scientists 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course teaches scientists how to manage data and databases. It includes how to convert data formats, how to filter data including outlier removal, writing queries including SQL, and many data analysis techniques.

This class is not intended for computer science majors.

Technology in Human Performance

PE 300 Technology in Human Performance 3 cr.  (3-0-0)

The purpose of this course is to familiarize and enhance the technology skills in physical education, coaching, fitness, and other areas of human performance. The course includes personal computer use in creating materials to enhance instruction, assessment, promotion, advocacy, and areas of research. Also included is exposure to other instructional technologies and software/internet programs found useful in the educational setting.

This course cannot be repeated for credit.

Quantitative Literacy

MA 101 Quantitative Literacy 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

The study of quantitative reasoning and application of analytical skills. A project-based course with emphasis on the process of identifying, formulating, and solving a multitude of frequently encountered real-world problems.

The Teaching of Literature

EN 345 The Teaching of Literature 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course explores theoretical and pedagogical issues related to teaching literary texts in secondary English classrooms. Emphasis on classic and contemporary texts, including works by women and writers of color and/or ethnic diversity.
