Upper Division Honors with World Language Studies

A specific course of study is not required for this program. Students who participate in the Honors Program will declare a major in an academic department. Students may earn one of the following honors designations: Lower Division Honors, Lower Division Honors with World Language Studies, Upper Division Honors, Upper Division Honors with World Language Studies, Full Honors, and Full Honors with World Language Studies.

Plant Wellness Customer Service

PBW 131 Plant Wellness Customer Service 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course will prepare students to communicate plant properties clearly in a plant-based
wellness retail environment. Students will learn effective communication, active listening, and
emotional intelligence to promote positive front-line customer relationships. This course will
provide students with a foundational, applied understanding of growing and developing plants
for use in natural wellness sectors. It includes a brief overview of seed germination, soil and
water management, plant anatomy, growing, and harvesting techniques.

Wellness Plants: Uses & Effects

PBW 121 Wellness Plants: Uses & Effects 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course will examine ways plant-based substances can impact well-being. Topics will include
wellness-based plants, specific active ingredients within these plants, and synthetic analogs of plant
ingredients. The course will introduce the relationship of plant application or ingestion to changes in
the nervous system and how these actions might affect mental functioning and behavior. An emphasis
will be on teaching students how to find and summarize published articles in this area of study.

State Dispensary Regulations

CO 212 State Dispensary Regulations 2 cr.  (2-0-0)

This course will provide students an overview of state dispensary regulations to prepare them to
work in a dispensary or other cannabis-related environment. This course will deliver practical,
applied content that will help students interact with customers in a legal and ethical manner. To
provide a larger context to working in a dispensary environment, the course will introduce
students to state regulations and legal issues and processes that impact dispensary business
operations.

Federal Dispensary Regulations

CO 211 Federal Dispensary Regulations 2 cr.  (2-0-0)

This course will provide students with an overview of federal dispensary regulations to prepare
them to work in a dispensary or other cannabis-related environment. This course will deliver
practical, applied content that will help students interact with customers in a legal and ethical
manner. To provide a larger context to working in a dispensary environment, the course will
introduce students to federal regulations and legal processes that impact dispensary business
operations.

Dispensary Operations

CO 131 Dispensary Operations 2 cr.  (2-0-0)

This course provides an overview of dispensary operations with the goal of applying operational
principles in a cannabis retail setting. This course provides details for protecting a dispensary’s
products, customers, and employees with emergency procedures. It also explores best practices in
dispensary design layout, admission processes and communication, lighting, and building climate,
product placement, and signage. This course reviews ways of preventing customer and employee
theft.

Plant-Based Wellness Certificate

The Plant-Based Wellness Certificate focuses on the development of skills needed for careers in the quickly growing plant-based wellness industry including retail and frontline services. Students develop the competencies needed to interact with and lawfully instruct others about plant-based wellness and how plants and plant-based products can impact systems in the human body. Historical elements of integrating plants into wellness, the foundational knowledge needed to pursue plant-based wellness careers, and regulatory compliance and established practices for remaining compliant are emphasized.
