Health and Illness Concepts Across the Lifespan - Lecture

PN 137 Health and Illness Concepts Across the Lifespan - Lecture 8 cr.  (8-0-0)

This course is designed to introduce the students to major concepts of health and illness from pediatric age through adult and the elderly population. Students will learn the nursing care in a variety of settings. Learning is structured within concepts of functions like hydration and oxygenation and what is considered normal or abnormal for a patient. This will prepare practical nursing students for the complexity of care they will deliver to patients in a variety of settings.

Fundamentals of Nursing - Lecture

PN 127 Fundamentals of Nursing - Lecture 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course introduces principle concepts upon which nursing care is based and the nurse’s role in carrying out the nursing process. Patient care is taught from the perspective concepts of human needs and stages of development.

Notes: This does not take the place of PN 114 and will need to be completed at a 2.0 or above with a maximum of two times.

Performance 1 - Harp

MU 141H Performance 1 - Harp 1 cr.

One individual half-hour lesson per week with emphasis on development of repertoire, technical dexterity and musicianship in playing the harp. Prior harp playing experience is not required.

May be repeated for credit (no limit on repeats).

Palliative and End of Life Care

NU 390 Palliative and End of Life Care 2 cr.  (2-0-0)

This course will provide students with an intense immersion into the care of patients and their family at end of life. Students will have an opportunity to learn about palliative care, pain management, symptom management, ethical/legal issues, cultural/spiritual considerations, communication, loss, grief and bereavement.

Media and Politics

PS 480 Media and Politics 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course examines the election process and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the coverage in the media. The course will also review the types and quality of information available about candidates, parties, and issues.

Environmental Conservation Law

CJ 383 Environmental Conservation Law 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course addresses the specialized area of environmental crime law implemented to protect wildlife, the natural environment and humanity. Students will examine the legislative history of laws designed to protect the environment and study local, state and federal law including statutes and court decisions. International treaties such as the Conventional on the International Trade in Endangered Species will be highlighted for study.

This course may not be repeated for credit.

Environmental Conservation Criminology

CJ 273 Environmental Conservation Criminology 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course involves the scientific study of environmental crime, sometimes referred to as green crime, including their forms, causes, victims, and efforts for prevention and control. The course focuses on theoretical explanations of environmental or green crimes, offender behavior, victim characteristics, greater social harms, and the role of specialized agencies within the justice system to both prevent these offenses.
