Intermediate Jazz Technique

DAN 303 Intermediate Jazz Technique 2 cr.

A development of jazz technique at the intermediate level. Emphasis is on lyrical integration of isolated movements, sequential combinations involving multiple turns, and skills in performance and quick study. The jazz curriculum will follow the comprehensive Luigi technique and various styles of choreography.

Intermediate Contemporary Technique

DAN 302 Intermediate Contemporary Technique 2 cr.

A development of contemporary technique at the intermediate level. Emphasis is on integration of technique in movement, quick study skills and movement which has contrasting dynamic qualities, varying rhythms and spatial diversity.

Intermediate Ballet Technique

DAN 301 Intermediate Ballet Technique 2 cr.

A development of ballet technique continued from HP201A. Emphasis is placed on challenging movement sequences used to increase strength, flexibility, musicality, integrated port de bras and vocabulary at the intermediate level.

TESOL Methods and Materials

EN 417 TESOL Methods and Materials 4 cr.

A survey of methods and materials for teaching English as a second or foreign language. Topics include TESOL settings and contexts; the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing; classroom management and activities; technology and language teaching; and TESOL resources and support.

Practicum in the Secondary School

ED 380 Practicum in the Secondary School 2 cr.

This practicum course assesses students’ knowledge and application of teaching methods for integrating literacy/reading (ED 319); meeting the needs of diverse learners (ED 361); and the use of technology to design, deliver, assess and communicate instructional goals (ED 483) in a secondary school setting. This course has a scheduled field experience component of a minimum of 30 hours.

Violent Crime and Victimology

CJ 432 Violent Crime and Victimology 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course provides an examination of criminal victimization in the United States via an overview of current theory, research, and trends within the context of specific victimization types. Particular attention is paid to crimes of violence. Students will examine specific crime types, the impact of crime on victims and society, the relationship between crime victims and offenders, the role of victims within the criminal justice system, specific remedies, and victim rights and services.

Institutional Corrections

CJ 322 Institutional Corrections 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

The course presents an in-depth analysis of the history and operation of prisons and jails in the United States and other countries. The course covers the management and operation of prisons and jails from the perspective of both employees and incarcerated persons. This course also explores the role of civil commitments as a form of involuntary incarceration in the criminal justice system.

Native American Justice

CJ 460 Native American Justice 4 cr.

There are important distinctions between ordinary criminal justice systems (CJS) and criminal justice systems operating Indian country. Typical criminal justice courses neglect these differences and fail to fully prepare students for careers in the CJS field. Therefore, this is a unique comparative criminal justice course in that comparisons of CJS components are examined in Indian country as compared to those components operating in larger American society.

Environmental Campaigns

PR 432 Environmental Campaigns 4 cr.

This course will provide an in-depth exploration of the theoretical, methodological, and applied aspects of environmental and nonprofit campaign design. Students will put those understandings into practice with the creation of a campaign related to communicating an ecological or social issue, e.g., water quality, local climate change impacts, etc. Additionally, students will learn how to translate complex scientific information for diverse, public audiences.
