Advanced Firefighter

RE 376 Advanced Firefighter 2 cr.  (2-0-0)

This course is designed to meet the training needs for both the Advanced Firefighter/Squad Boss and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5) on wildfires. Meets National Wildfire Coordinating Group requirements for S-131 and S-244. APC granted for NWCG certificates in S-131 and S-244 inclusive.

Lessons Learned

RE 374 Lessons Learned 2 cr.  (1-0-2)

The purpose of the course is to visit and use historical fatality wildland fire sites as a learning tool to help fireline decision makers avoid making similar mistakes in the future.

Requires a field trip to the site of a fatal wildland fire. Additional fees required.

Interagency Incident Business Management

RE 373 Interagency Incident Business Management 1 cr.  (1-0-0)

The purpose of this course is to give students an understanding of agency policies and incident business management practices they will encounter as a wildland firefighter. Meets National Wildfire Coordinating Group requirements for S-260. APC granted for NWCG certificate S-260.

Basic Air Operations

RE 175 Basic Air Operations 1 cr.  (1-0-0)

Instruction for basic aviation safety, aircraft types and capabilities, aviation management, tactical and logistical uses of aircraft, and requirements for helicopter take-off and landing areas. Meets National Wildfire Coordinating Group requirements for S-270. APC granted for NWCG certificate S-270. 

Classic Readings in Public Administration

PS 436 Classic Readings in Public Administration 4 cr. This course provides a learning opportunity and general introductory scholarship related to the development of public administration as an academic discipline. The course is designed to provide interested students a foundation for understanding practical and theoretical concepts related to public administration in the United States.

Politics and Film

PS 315 Politics and Film 4 cr. This course uses films and selected documentaries to analyze a series of political topics, all linked by themes of power and violence in political systems. Some of these issues are basic and permanent in politics, such as the troubled relationship between private and public ethics; others, such as totalitarianism, force us to rethink the nature of modernity itself.

Medical Anthropology: Pluralistic Systems of Health Care

AN 383 Medical Anthropology: Pluralistic Systems of Health Care 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

Analysis of behavioral science dimensions of health systems and institutions at regional, national and global scales. Discussion includes social and cultural factors relating to health, occurrence and distribution of disease. Cross cultural analysis of biomedicine and societal medical systems.
