Transition into Professional Nursing Practice (Clinical)

NU 452 Transition into Professional Nursing Practice (Clinical) 3 cr.  (0-0-6)

This capstone course in an intensive clinical internship with a preceptor in a primary, secondary, or tertiary care setting will enhance the student’s transition into the professional nursing role. The student focuses on a selected area of practice within the current health care environment.

Leadership and Management in Nursing (Theory)

NU 441 Leadership and Management in Nursing (Theory) 2 cr.  (2-0-0) Roles and responsibilities related to leadership and management in nursing practice. Impact of management theories and processes on nursing practice and the delivery of health care within organizations.

Nursing Care of Adults II (Clinic)

NU 432 Nursing Care of Adults II (Clinic) 3 cr.  (0-0-6) Clinical practice focusing on critical decision making in planning and implementing therapeutic nursing interventions in the care of the complex or critically ill adult. The nursing process is the organizing framework for the care provided.

Nursing Care of Adults II (Theory)

NU 431 Nursing Care of Adults II (Theory) 2 cr.  (2-0-0) Provides the theoretical foundation necessary to make critical decisions in planning and implementing therapeutic nursing interventions in the care of the complex or critically ill adult. The nursing process is the organizing framework for the discussion of each topic area.

Nursing Issues Seminar

NU 421 Nursing Issues Seminar 2 cr.  (2-0-0) A forum for analysis and debate of selected ethical, legal, and local, national and global political issues relevant to preparation for professional nursing practice. Topics include historical development of nursing, current roles, trends, and professional standards of practice.

Nursing Care of Populations (Theory)

NU 411 Nursing Care of Populations (Theory) 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

Focuses on population-based nursing care. Using a public health perspective, local, national and global health problems are examined. Issues related to vulnerable populations, social justice, ethics, economics and health care policy are considered. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention strategies are integrated throughout the course.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (Clinic)

NU 402 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing (Clinic) 3 cr.  (0-0-6) This course provides the opportunity for students to use the knowledge gained in NU 401 (Theory) to provide care to mental health patients and their families in hospital and community settings.

Using developmental, psychological, biological and cultural concepts, students will develop the theoretical and evidence-based foundation necessary to effectively assess and plan for safe, compassionate nursing care for diverse mental health patients.
