All mathematics courses in the component meet the Mathematics Competency University Requirement if completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Transfer courses designated as MA 1001 will also count toward the Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis component, as well as the Mathematics Competency University Requirement.

Effective Communication (EFFC)

Cybersecurity Foundations

IS 236 Cybersecurity Foundations 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

Students learn the core body of knowledge required in the cybersecurity discipline. Technical, operational, and physical security best practices are covered in depth. Students will gain experience using industry standard tools and techniques for preventing, detecting, and responding to cybersecurity attacks.

Cybersecurity Fundamentals

IS 116 Cybersecurity Fundamentals 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

Students will learn fundamental principles for protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. A broad overview of topics are covered such as operating system security, cryptography, ethical hacking, and programming. Students will learn to protect themselves and organizations from common cybersecurity threats.

Cannabis and Plant-Based Wellness Operations Associate of Applied Science

The Cannabis and Plant-Based Wellness Operations A.A.S. focuses on the development of frontline skills needed for careers in the quickly expanding cannabis and other plant-based wellness retail industries. Students develop the competencies needed to interact with and lawfully instruct others about cannabis and other plant-based wellness, including how plant-based products can impact systems in the human body. Regulatory components of cannabis and other plant-based wellness retail operations including processes for establishing compliance protocols as well as practices for remaining compliant are emphasized. Instruction incorporates traditional use of cannabis and other plants for wellness.

Graduation Assessment for Cannabis and Plant-Based Wellness Operations

PBW 289 Graduation Assessment for Cannabis and Plant-Based Wellness Operations 0 cr.

All graduating majors must take an exit assessment for the Cannabis and Plant-Based Wellness Operations A.A.S. as part of the program's outcomes assessment efforts. This assessment will be given in the final semester for all graduating students. Students must enroll in this course concurrently with graduation registration.

Plant-Based Wellness Minor

The Plant-Based Wellness Minor focuses on the development of skills needed for careers in the quickly growing plant-based wellness industry including retail and frontline services. Students develop the competencies needed to interact with and lawfully instruct others about plant-based wellness and how plants and plant-based products can impact systems in the human body. Historical elements of integrating plants into wellness, the foundational knowledge needed to pursue plant-based wellness careers, and regulatory compliance and established practices for remaining compliant are emphasized.

The Cannabis Operations minor focuses on all frontline aspects and workforce needs of the rapidly expanding cannabis retail industry. Students gain an understanding of cannabis regulations and advanced dispensary retail while learning to interact with and lawfully instruct others about cannabis and related product use. Students also gain a strong foundational knowledge of the cannabis business environment and regulatory components of day-to-day sales operations including processes for establishing compliant protocols and practices for remaining compliant.

Controlled Environment Agriculture Major

The Controlled Environment Agriculture Bachelor's Degree is a collaborative, interdisciplinary program combining expertise in areas such as Indoor Agriculture Systems, Plant Sciences, Building Systems, Health and Nutrition, and Business to provide a well-rounded base of knowledge for a wide range of career opportunities.  Students will take a hands-on, real-world approach to learn about all processes involved in growing and developing food and/or other plants in an indoor setting - including, but not limited to: space design and construction, facility management and maintenance, climate control systems, plant biology, design of different types of indoor agriculture systems (including hydroponics, aquaponics, aeroponics), chemical and nutritional makeup of different plant types, and business and accounting practices.
