American Sign Language 2

DFST 102 American Sign Language 2 4 cr.

Additional emphasis on the development of receptive and expressive signing skills in American Sign Language involving structured discourse in social settings; expanded focus on conceptually accurate use of contemporary ASL vocabulary; continued exposure of the Deaf community’s culture and social issues through research of literature readings, video-media and in-class Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing guest speakers; incorporated use of synchronous and asynchronous LMS technology to demonstrate ASL skills, engage in activities and create projects; use of various media formats throughout duration of course.

American Sign Language 1

DFST 101 American Sign Language 1 4 cr.

DFST 101 is a foundational course of introductory American Sign Language within social settings. Students build expressive and receptive skills in ASL linguistics, conversational techniques, and vocabulary; encompassing introductory research of historical and contemporary themes of the Deaf community and its culture.

Fast-Track French

FR 200 Fast-Track French 4 cr.

Prepares students for FR 202. Contains French as a second language (ASL) component. All credits can be earned toward French minor or major. FR 200 freshman year, leads to minor in French by sophomore year, and a major by junior year.

Internships in Music Entrepreneurship, Music Management and Marketing and Publicity

MU 492 Internships in Music Entrepreneurship, Music Management and Marketing and Publicity 6-12 cr.

 A 14-week internship in the music industry intended as a capstone experience for the Bachelor of Music in Music with Elective Studies in Business or Emphasis in Music Technology. Internships may take place in the fields of music products retail and wholesale, arts management, marketing, promotions, recording, live sound, venue operations, sound design, and/or audio production. Students are encouraged to make contact with potential internship programs well before their internship semester.

Introduction to Music Education

MU 218 Introduction to Music Education 1 cr.

A course for music education students to explore the essence of teaching, characteristics of master teachers, principles of effective teaching and learning, and to personally reflect on your own strengths, weaknesses, and journey towards becoming a music educator. This course serves as an introduction to the profession of music teaching and will prepare you for your music methods courses. Students will perform peer-teaching episodes during class.

Wetlands

GC 362 Wetlands 4 cr.  (3-0-2)

Acquire practical knowledge of wetland ecosystems from around the world by examining their biogeochemical and societal properties. Wetlands is designed to provide students with professional skills and an applied understanding of wetland hydrology, soils, vegetation, management, restoration, and regulation.

Energy and the Environment

GC 342 Energy and the Environment 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

An examination of our energy system, its development, and its future. Topics include: the foundational science concepts of energy and power; the use of energy in modern society; the technologies, resource availability, and environmental and social impacts of fossil fuels, nuclear energy, and renewable energy sources; the policy and economics surrounding energy use; and options for a sustainable energy system.

Genomics

BI 446 Genomics 4 cr.  (4-0-0)

This course will cover the structure, function and evolution of genomes. Topics relating to current DNA sequencing methods, genome annotation, regulation of gene expression, and metagenomics will be addressed.
