Program Requirements

Certified elementary teachers may pursue a master of arts in education degree with a concentration in elementary education.

The master of arts in education degree in elementary education offers the candidate the advanced professional and specialty knowledge needed for informed and wise practice as an elementary teacher and educational leader. The selection of cognate courses strengthens the student’s background for teaching content areas in the elementary school curriculum, including mathematics, science, social studies and language arts. The concentration particularly enriches the candidate’s background related to students with special needs in general placements, the multi-varied nature of elementary students’ backgrounds, and other factors relevant in adapting elementary instruction and curricula to all students. Advisement sheets are available at the School of Education Office.
