What is your NMU connection?

I was a student from 1973, graduating in 1977.

Your favorite NMU memory or story

So many memories and so many stories!

Who is the most influential person you met during your time at NMU and why were they so influential?

One of the most influential people I remember was my Quantitative Chemistry professor, and I unfortunately forgot his name. I went to his office for some assistance and what he told me, stayed with me forever. He said that he worked for me, that I paid to have him teach me, and that his job was to ensure that I understood the subject! Also, my General Chemistry professor, Dr. Phil Pavlik, and my Physics professor, Dr. Fred Trentelman (sp?), were a couple of characters!

Tell us about the significance of any teams, clubs, or organizations you were part of during your time at NMU

Hiking in the Dead River area, Tourist Park, Presque Isle Park, Sugarloaf, and Hogback Mountains. Duck and geese hunting with friends.

What is/was your favorite thing to do in Marquette?

I remember that our football team was terrible in the '73 and '74 seasons but then we won the Division II National Championship in 1975.

I also remember that our hockey team gained varsity status and the whole town came out to watch the games.

Share any dorm/roommate stories you may have

I shared the dorm room in Tarawa House in Payne Hall with the same roommate, Ron Boase, for three years. We had a great time with numerous memories and we still keep in touch. The rest of the "characters" in the house were also a great bunch of guys that left me with a ton of great memories.

What is your current or former profession?

I am retired, but I was in the Health Care field for 39 years.

How did NMU help you get to where you are today?

It set a great foundation for the rest of my life! I was the first college graduate on either side of my family at the time.
