Your favorite NMU memory or story

Hiking up Sugar Loaf with my local girlfriend on my back!

Who is the most influential person you met during your time at NMU and why were they so influential?

Dr. Helmut Kreitz, my favorite German Professor who taught me so much and proved to me that I could do anything I
wanted to do!

Tell us about the significance of any teams, clubs or organizations you were part of during your time at NMU

Watching Tom Izzo, Steve Marriucci, and Randy Awry compete! I was a fan of NMU football, basketball, and hockey!

What is/was your favorite thing to do in Marquette?

Getting out in nature, cliff diving at Little Presque Isle five miles north of Marquette, and going on dates with gorgeous
coeds! So many places to go and so much to do, I loved it in Marquette!

Talk about any significant/memorable sporting events, weather occurrences or other on-campus activities

Helping to tear down the goalposts and rioting through the streets with it! NMU football was a blast!

What is your current or former profession?

Retired four times from teaching after four decades of building German programs in American public schools in Germany,
South Korea and eight US States!

How did NMU help you get to where you are today?

Academic preparation was part of it, but honestly I’d have to say it was all the adventures in nature that also gave me to
confidence to live and work overseas with the US Department of Defense and the courage to move from Florida to Alaska to Arizona and back to Michigan.
