What is your NMU connection?

I attended NMU as a student from August 1996 to December 2000 graduating with a degree in Economics.

Your favorite NMU memory or story

One of my favorite ties to Marquette is the food. I travel around the country for work and I swear there is no better sub
than Togo's and no better Thai than Rice Paddy. They set the bar high -- at the time as a student I knew both were great and we ate there tons of times but it was only later on that I realized how fantastic those 2 places were.

Share any dorm/roommate stories you may have

You meet such great people at NMU. I am still in touch with many old roommates and friends from the dorms and campus in general. We've attended each other's weddings and kids' birthdays, and it is hard to believe that some of these people you meet will become a part of your life, sharing in many milestones. Many of us are now discussing going back to MQT for our 25th reunion- I can't believe it's been 25 years!!!

What is your current or former profession?

I am a Senior Claims Technical Director for a commercial insurance company called Strategic Comp. My company
provides workers' compensation insurance for companies and my job is to keep workers safe and injury-free as well as
providing training to our field operations staff across the US.

How did NMU help you get to where you are today?

I believe that NMU played an important part in developing my networking skills. I recall the incoming class of 1997 - the
first freshman group to receive a laptop. The LRC center was where everyone had to go to jump online. Advances in
technology, smaller class sizes, easy access to professors, and a laid-back atmosphere develop the way you interact
with people across the board. Those are people skills that carry across to your professional career. The ability to interact with people is a skill that will never go away, and NMU faculty and students are in general laid-back and easy to talk to.
