My first tip would be to network as much as possible BEFORE the interview process - you never know who knows who or how that could help you once you are ready to apply somewhere. Secondly, gain experience in something, literally anything...even if it's un-related to the actual field. If you volunteer at a pet shelter and can add that on your resume and have a time where you navigated a tough situation during the volunteer process, it'll show problem-solving skills, social skills, empathy, etc - those are the things that are valuable in any career path. And lastly - don't be scared to apply because you think you might not be qualified - people hire people, not just skills! If it's a position that requires training and you show great adaptation and people skills, you're highly trainable -you don't need to know everything when you apply - no one does!

My tip is to be prepared.  That means research the company and their products/services.  Know what industry the company is in.  What challenges they may be facing, etc.  Thirty minutes spent on-line can make all the difference.  I've actually interviewed new graduates who had no clue what we (the employer) did....those applicants stood out, but not in a good way!

Listed below are several tips I’d recommend using to prepare for and follow during an interview. By following these pointers, the student will improve their performance and increase their chances of securing a job opportunity.

1. Research the Company: Understand the company's mission, values, products/services, and recent achievements.

2. Practice Common Interview Questions: Prepare responses for typical interview questions like "Tell me about yourself," "Why do you want to work here?" and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" Rehearse your answers to ensure clarity and confidence. Remember to stick to the question at hand and avoid providing unnecessary information.  Only answer the question you are asked, avoid providing additional information beyond what the interviewer asks for.

3. Prepare Specific Examples: Have solid examples ready to illustrate your skills, experiences, and accomplishments.

4. Dress Appropriately: Dress professionally according to the company's culture and industry norms. When uncertain, opt for conservative attire to make a positive impression.

5. Arrive Early: Arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your scheduled interview time. This demonstrates punctuality and allows you to compose yourself before the interview begins.

6. Bring Copies of Your Resume: Bring multiple copies of your resume to provide to the interviewer(s), even if you've already submitted it online. This ensures they have a physical copy for reference during the interview.

7. Maintain Strong Body Language: Project confidence through your posture, eye contact, and gestures. Avoid slouching, crossing your arms, or fidgeting, as these can convey nervousness or disinterest.

8. Listen Actively: Pay close attention to the interviewer's questions and respond thoughtfully. If you're unsure about a question, don't hesitate to ask for clarification before providing your answer.

9. Ask Insightful Questions: Prepare insightful questions to ask the interviewer about the company culture, team dynamics, career advancement opportunities, or specific projects. This demonstrates your interest and engagement in the role and organization.

10. Follow Up with a Thank You Note: Send a personalized thank-you email to the interviewer(s) within 24 hours of the interview. Express appreciation for the opportunity, reiterate your interest in the position, and briefly mention key points discussed during the interview.

11. Be Authentic: Present yourself honestly and authentically during the interview. Avoid exaggerating your qualifications or experiences.  Integrity and sincerity are valued by employers.

12. Demonstrate Enthusiasm: Showcase your passion for the role and industry through your responses and demeanor. Genuine enthusiasm can leave a lasting impression on interviewers.

13. Practice Professional Etiquette: Treat everyone you encounter during the interview process with respect and professionalism, from the receptionist to the interviewer(s).

14. Manage Interview Nerves: Try to calm your nerves before and during the interview. Remember to maintain a confident and composed demeanor.

15. Reflect and Learn: After each interview, reflect on your performance and identify areas for improvement. Use this feedback to refine your interview skills and strategies for future opportunities.

By incorporating these tips into your interview preparation, you'll position yourself as a strong candidate and increase your likelihood of securing the job you desire.
