What is your NMU connection?
Alumni- BSW 2011
Your favorite NMU memory or story
I did my field placement at Marquette Alternative High School, and it was an incredible experience. I learned so much from that program and my wonderful site supervisor. I also really loved the Native American Student Center. I was in the first cohort of students able to earn a NAS minor. I am working now with Indigenous communities thanks to the amazing experience I got at NMU.
Who is the most influential person you met during your time at NMU and why were they so influential?
Carol Simpson was my instructor for SW101 and her class convinced me that I was in the right place! She was passionate about social work, and did a good job of trying to prepare us for the hardships it brought. She would say, "If not you, then who?"
Tell us about the significance of any teams, clubs or organizations you were part of during your time at NMU
I was part of Student United Way and the Social Work Student Association. We organized alternative spring break projects out at Lake Superior Village and at a youth rec center out at Sawyer. I learned a lot and had run building my network and my resume.
