Meet Cory Strong, a Cyber Security & Information Assurance Major from Kingsford, MI. Cory plans to graduate in December of 2024.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
I came to Northern Michigan University because I had attended Bay De Noc community college and decided to transfer my credits here.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I decided my major/minor based off of a video I had watched online where someone got certifications for cyber security. This fueled my curiosity in the field.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major?
I have learned how to configure networks by working with switches and routers. It’s awesome to have hands-on experience with networking!
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
I have been involved with intramural hockey in the past and I have recently joined the EA sports team. My most rewarding experience has been meeting people and creating connections.
What does being a Wildcat mean to you?
I believe in order to be a wildcat, you must have dedication and passion for the field you are pursuing. I have met many majors that enjoy what Northern Michigan has to offer.
How did you find your sense of belonging at NMU?
I found my sense of belonging by venturing out and finding people who were like-minded and enjoyed the outdoors as much as me.
Further comments about your NMU experience?
Growing up in the Northern Michigan region, I had already felt at home. Surrounded by nature and having Lake Superior nearby there are plenty of activities to do. I have met a lot of people here who have made major impacts on my life and I have made forever connections.
