Meet David Méndez Cruz, a Secondary Education major from Chicago, Illinois. He plans to graduate in May 2023. Why did you decide to come to NMU? The environment of the UP and Education program. How did you decide your major/minor? I have always enjoyed helping my community and I believe people like me will be the change to the education system of the US. What's an example of a cool, interesting, or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major? I have worked as a TA at Chicago Public Schools this past academic year. What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience? I am the Co-President of the Latinx Student Union and we walked the homecoming parade for the first time this year. What are your plans after graduation? Teach in Mexico for low-income towns Do you have any advice for someone who is considering NMU? Do it. You won’t regret it.
