Meet Izzy McCabe, a surgical technology major from Plymouth, Wisconsin. She plans to graduate in May 2024.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
From the very first time that I stepped on campus I was instantly taken in by the atmosphere, I felt at home and everyone was very inviting.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I have always wanted to be in the medical field, surgical technology seemed to me as a great option to get into the field right after college while still being able to make it into the operating room and assisting in surgeries.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major?
Watching live surgeries has helped me get into a very real mindset of what I will be seeing and dealing with in my future career
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
I am a diver on the NMU swim and dive team and am part of the surgical technology club. After my first dive meet I felt proud of myself for making it to the collegiate level and being able to move forward in my career as a diver.
What does “be Northern” mean to you?
To me, "Be Northern" means being able to attend a school that is surrounded by unique outdoor experiences that are unlike anywhere else in the world along with having so many class options taught by amazing professors.
Further comments about your NMU experience?
My experience here in the UP and at NMU have given me so many opportunities to try new things and step out of my comfort zone as well as being surrounded by other students with similar passions.
