Meet Kenzie Tachick, an Elementary Education major from Waunakee, Wisconsin. She plans to graduate in 2025.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
I decided to come to NMU because both of my parents are from the UP and I’ve always loved it up here. My extended family still lives up here, so it just made the decision even easier.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I’ve always known I wanted to be a teacher, but what really solidified it was working in a daycare my senior year of high school and my first year of college. Kids are awesome little creatures who are so curious about the world.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major?
Through the School of Education, I was able to find my job working at a local daycare. It has given me hands on experience that will continue to benefit me as years go on.
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
I’m a part of NMUs club softball team. Through this program I have found some of my closest friends and have been able to be involved on campus.
What does 'beNorthern' mean to you?
beNorthern means to me being a part of a community who supports each other as a whole.
What would you tell someone who is considering coming to NMU?
NMU has made the transition from high school to college really easy. It doesn’t seem like I’m so far away from home when I’m here.
Further comments about your NMU experience:
I’m currently only in my first year here yet I have gained lifelong friends and memorable experiences! I can’t wait for the next three years!!
