Kourtney Bazhenow

Secondary Education Mathematics major from Peoria, IL

Meet Kourtney Bazhenow, a Secondary Education Mathematics major from Peoria, IL. Kourtney plans to graduate in May of 2025.

I chose NMU because of its overall environment. It is surrounded by beautiful woods, right next to Lake Superior, and wildlife is throughout the campus. Marquette, Michigan, and NMU have a slower pace than my hometown. Finally, NMU has an amazing educational program.

Throughout my life, I was told I would make a good teacher but did not believe them until my Junior year of high school where I had an amazing teacher. Finally having a female mathematics teacher who made everyone feel welcomed and heard in her classroom showed me the type of teacher and person I want to be.

I have been given the opportunity to student teach in New Zealand. I look forward to being able to experience a different culture and a different educational system so I can see if I can bring any practices back to my classroom.

I am a member of the NMU Ducks Unlimited Chapter which has allowed me to help plan events and assist an organization I care about.

Being a Wildcat means belonging somewhere. The Wildcats at NMU feel like one big family always there for each other.

NMU is an amazing school for those looking for a calming place surrounded by nature. There are many free things to do in the Marquette area.

NMU is an amazing school and I am so lucky that I found this place.
