Madeleine Boyle

Meet Madeleine Boyle, a Clinical Laboratory Studies: Diagnostic Genetics major from Port Huron, Mi. Madeleine plans to graduate in 2026.

I loved how it felt like I was part of a big school without a big campus. It doesn’t feel like a small school at all, it feels like I could be at U of M or MSU without a large, sprawling campus.

I got interested after taking a biomedical science class my senior year of high school (shoutout to Mr Marchione!) where we completed a PCR test to determine who’s DNA was at a crime scene. I looked into the field some more, and when I realized I could make a career out of it, I decided to go down that path.

Next semester I’ll get to do several labs that involves all sorts of different testing of specimen that I am looking forward to!

I joined the NMU Color Guard this year to give myself a different experience then I did marching back in high school. What’s most rewarding to me is all my hard work learning choreography, techniques, and routines to perform for our audiences at the Superior Dome!

Being my authentic self

Take a campus tour! That’s what convinced me to come up here, and look into what they offer compared to other schools; Northern offers a lot of different experiences through their degrees that you will not find at any other school!

So far it has been amazing. Early in the fall 2022 semester, I had surgery to remove cancerous tissue from my leg after being diagnosed with melanoma this July. Throughout my journey (which is still on going as off October 2022), I’ve had a wide array of support from my peers, professors, and instructors that have greatly helped me in my medical journey.
