Meet Mary lerret, a Fisheries and Wildlife Management major, from Menominee, MI. She plans to graduate in 2024.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
I chose to go to NMU because I really loved the idea of having so many outdoor activities all around, I love being closer to home and I love the programs that NMU offers.
How did you decide your major/minor?
I grew up outside we were always doing something outdoors and a lot of that consisted with animals with her we were fishing or hunting or disabling like watching wildlife and still pursuing a career that involves that for the rest of my life it’s just the most ideal.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major?
I joined the wildlife and fisheries management club!! With this club you get more in touch with your major and they help you find resources to pursue a career in this field.
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
I would say the wildlife and fishery management club!! It’s most rewarding because you get in touch with the community and with your own major so it’s a win-win!
Do you have any advice for someone who is considering NMU?
Totally apply it’s worth every penny!! You always have something to do, the staff is extremely helpful, and you have a great experience by going to college here.
Further comments about your NMU experience:
Another reason why I love NMU is because it’s basically like history in the making for me, i’ve had both my uncles and cousins go here and it feels like I’m just carrying the legacy!!
What does “be Northern” mean to you?
What be northern means to me is being in touch with your outdoor lifestyle and education.
