Meet Megan Van Camp, a Public Relations major and Marketing minor from De Pere, WI. Megan plans to graduate in 2022.
Why did you decide to come to NMU?
I decided to come to NMU for a few different reasons. First one being the size. Northern has roughly 8,000 undergrads which is quite a bit smaller that other WI state schools. The smaller enrollment also means smaller class sizes and more one-on-one opportunities with your professors. Additionally, It is also 3 hours away from my hometown which makes it easy to come home when I want.
How did you decide your major/minor?
As a freshman, I came to Northern with a Graphic Design major. During my second semester here, NMU announced the new Social Media Design Management degree which seemed more interesting to me. After completing two core classes for this degree I immediately switched to Public Relations with a Marketing minor and it was the best choice I could have made.
What's an example of a cool, interesting or helpful thing that you have done as a part of your major?
The most helpful thing I could have experienced within my major would be my internship. Currently, I work as a marketing assistant in the UMC office here on campus. It has provided me opportunities academically as well as professionally. Although an internship is required within my major, gaining credit and the necessary experience within my field is the reason I am able to graduate early.
What are you involved in on- and off-campus and what has been the most rewarding experience?
